Discover the Spiritual Soul of Bangalore
Step into the timeless charm of Basavanagudi, one of Bangalore’s oldest neighbourhoods, where history, devotion, and tradition beautifully intertwine. This spiritual trail takes you through sacred temples, a peaceful ashram, and bustling local streets. Whether you’re seeking calm, culture, or curiosity, this walk offers a soulful glimpse into the city’s heritage.
Tour Program
- Vidyarthi Bhavan- We begin at this legendary eatery, renowned citywide for serving what many consider the best dosas in Bangalore. Over the years, it has welcomed several global figures, including Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the UK, and Zev Siegl, co-founder of Starbucks. Pair your crispy, buttery masala dosa with a cup (or two) of steaming filter coffee, and soak in the buzzing, nostalgic vibe of this beloved institution.
- Bull Temple- Visit the iconic Nandi Temple, built on the very ground where a once-notorious bull created havoc in the village by destroying crops and terrifying locals. That same area, once farmland, has now become a sacred site — home to one of the city’s most revered temples and a symbol of protection and devotion.
- Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple- Enter this ancient 10th-century cave temple and uncover one of Bangalore’s most curious natural wonders. Every year during Makara Sankranti, people from across the city gather to witness a unique sunset event — a moment tied closely to the temple’s design and mythology. A place that quietly invites awe and wonder.
- Dodda Ganesha Temple- This temple features an 18-foot tall monolithic idol of Lord Ganesha, believed to have emerged naturally from a rock. The temple is famous for its unique butter decoration using over 100 kg of butter, and draws devotees for new vehicle poojas and prasada (holy offering) like kadubu (sweet dumpling) during special occasions.
- Ramakrishna Math and Mission- Hidden in the heart of Basavanagudi, Ramakrishna Math and Mission is a peaceful ashram perfect for quiet reflection and spiritual exploration. With its tranquil gardens, lotus pond, and serene atmosphere, it offers a calming escape from the city. Visitors can sit on the sacred rock overlooking the greenery for quiet meditation.
